Presenters
Dr. Diane L. Krasner is a board certified wound specialist with experience in wound, ostomy & incontinence care across the continuum of care. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a Master of the American Professional Wound Care Association. Dr. Krasner is a Wound & Skin Care Consultant in York, Pennsylvania and works part-time at Rest Haven – York as the Clinical Nursing Specialist and Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse. Dr. Krasner is the lead co-editor of Chronic Wound Care: A Clinical Source Book for Healthcare Professionals (HMP Communications; 5th edition 2012).
She currently serves as the clinical editor of the Kestrel Wound Product Source Book. Krasner is also on the editorial boards of Ostomy Wound Management, WOUNDS, The International Journal of Wound Care, World Wide Wounds and Long-Term Living. Since 1992 Dr. Krasner has served on the Board of Directors and as an Officer of several national wound care organizations.
Dr. Krasner’s research interests include wound pain, palliative wound care and legal issues related to wound care. She has numerous publications in the wound care literature and lectures nationally and internationally on wound & skin care. She has written over 100 expert witness reports for pressure ulcer cases.
Patricia Iyer MSN RN LNCC has reviewed dozens of pressure ulcer cases as a liability and fact witness. She is best known as the chief editor of Legal Nurse Consulting Principles and Practices, Second Edition. She is Past Present of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC). Her most recent book is Nursing Malpractice, Fourth Edition, which was published in 2011. She coedited this book with Barbara Levin, Kathleen Ashton and Victoria Powell. She has been self-employed as the president of Med League, an independent legal nurse consulting firm, since 1987. She has a national client base and has been board-certified as an LNCC since 2000. Pressure ulcer expert reports: components, do’s and don’ts and how to avoid beginner’s mistakes
SESSION 3 February 27, 2012 4:00 PM-5:00 PM Eastern
This is an introduction to a pressure ulcer case. The session focuses on the case and alleged negligence. You’ll be able to download the actual medical records of the patient. Learn the relevancy and importance of these documents while performing the review. You will become familiar with medical records specific to these cases such as the pressure ulcer flow sheets and wound care consults. Develop analytical skills of medical records focusing on the alleged negligence.
SESSION 4 March 5, 2012 8:00 PM-9:00 PM
Prior to this session, create the expert report you began after Session 3. Learn from Dr. Krasner’s expert analysis of the case and its outcome.
